Jersey photographer: sunset dog photoshoot

As a photographer in Jersey in the Channel Islands, and dog owner myself, I absolutely love photographing people and their dogs. Dogs give so much, and expect so little. Because of their amazing smell, sight and hearing, dogs are extremely perceptive creatures with a loyalty to their humans that is unexpectedly strong. Those with dogs will know - man’s best friend can sense human body language, emotions and feelings, and this paves the way for an unbreakable bond. Capturing this bond on camera is something of a privilege.

James and Radhika contacted me for a photoshoot with their dogs, Hudson and Dutch (such awesome dog names!), who had travelled the world with them.

Here is what James had to say about their beautiful dogs:

Dutch and Hudson are quite the travellers. Both born in Punjab in India, Dutch and Hudson both made the journey across the floodplains of the Ganges to the tranquil mountain town of Pokhara in Nepal. Before James met Radhika, he worked and lived in Pokhara. For company he had always wanted an English Pointer and he managed to find some Pointers in India. Sure enough, Dutch arrived and became thick as thieves with James. Whilst Dutch is definitely half Pointer, he is rather too stocky to be a pedigree, but, whatever the other half is, adds a huge compliment to his easily-pleased character. James and Radhika met in Nepal in 2012 and married in 2013. Three's a crowd, so Hudson, a Red Setter, also put down his Bollywood dancing shoes from Punjab and made the journey to Nepal. The four of them moved back to the UK in 2016 and Dutch and Hudson have loved adjusting to long walks, swimming and chasing squirrels.

Jersey photographer - couples & dogs photoshoot

I had spied a buttercup field the week before the photoshoot and knew it would be the perfect natural backdrop for the photos. We met in the evening so that we could catch the beautiful golden sun dipping low in the sky. We let the dogs off the leads to have a good sniff around and get familiar with me and my camera gear, then we gently posed a few shots with the dogs before letting them go bounding through the flowers and I captured them as they were.

Here is the lovely email I received from James when I sent them their proofing gallery after the photoshoot:

We’re rather short for words - simply incredible! You have captured their characters so well and the photos are all stunning! Thank you so much, Radhika is grinning from ear to ear!
