Jersey photographer: a cosy winter newborn photoshoot at home
Those curled up legs.
Those little wisps of hair.
The way they melt into you, not yet knowing that they are separate from you.
As a new mother and father, this has to be one of the most important and beautiful things you will ever have the opportunity to have photographed.
In a matter of weeks they stretch out. They wake up more. They will never be this tiny again.
The newborn phase can feel overwhelming and exhausting. You are in survival mode.
With your hair in a messy bun, milk on your pyjamas, and running on no sleep, most mums are the ones taking the baby photos. But because of that, you are rarely captured in those very early memories.
A newborn session gently brings you into the frame… not posed, not pressured… just holding your baby the way you already do.
A newborn photoshoot at home is the most relaxed way to capture this fleeting and achingly gorgeous time. It creates a pocket of calm, in the comfort of your own home (because let’s be honest leaving the house in those first few weeks is a feat!), and a little pause button on this blur of new beginnings.
You don’t need a showhome. You just need a good window, and I’ll take care of the rest.
You sit. You breathe. You hold your baby without multi-tasking.
For an hour or two, I notice and capture all those beautiful little details, only as another nostalgic mother could, so that you don’t have to.
I hope you love looking through some of my favourites from a recent at home newborn photoshoot in Jersey, with the beautiful little Ottilie. With huge thanks to Amy and Benjamin for letting me share some of my work. xxx
Here are some kind words from Amy after her photoshoot:
“We had the most incredible newborn photoshoot with Rachel. I had to reschedule twice due to my baby being unwell, and Rachel was so kind, patient and accommodating throughout.
The entire shoot felt completely natural and relaxed – my partner and I felt so comfortable, which made the experience even more special. When Ottilie needed feeding during the session, it was absolutely no problem at all, and Rachel even captured some truly beautiful breastfeeding shots that I will treasure forever.
Rachel is not only an incredibly talented photographer but also a genuinely lovely person. I couldn’t recommend her highly enough. The photos are absolutely stunning – some of the best I have ever seen – and she has captured our memories so perfectly. These are images we will cherish for a lifetime.”
