Jersey photographer - a summer sunset photoshoot in the dunes

For such a little island, Jersey packs in an incredible variety of landscapes to choose from for outdoor photoshoots. Forests, sandy beaches, rocky beaches, cliffs, meadows, heather-clad headlands and sand dunes.

The dunes are a real favourite of mine, but only work in low wind conditions. They look particularly beautiful at sunset, when the low light illuminates all the grasses there, and makes the white sand look like somewhere tropical. They are also a perfect choice for active kids.

This was my sixth photoshoot with this wonderful family. One of the most special parts of being a photographer in Jersey is seeing the same families come back.

When someone books with you for the first time, there’s always that little bit of nervousness. They’re not quite sure what to expect. The kids might be shy. Mum is often worried about how everyone will behave or whether the photos will turn out the way she hopes.

But when a family returns, everything feels different.

There’s this immediate sense of familiarity. The kids recognise you. Parents relax faster. Everyone knows it’s not about standing perfectly or forcing smiles… it’s simply about having fun.

I adore photographing this family, and how they love the changing seasons, and many different outdoor backdrops of Jersey. We’ve had many shoots together now. There is always tonnes of energy, lots of giggles, gorgeous outfits and a little bit of beautiful mischief!
